2020 Ford Super Duty Chassis Cabs Ready for the Next-Generation of Work

The 2020 Ford Super Duty is the toughest, hardest-working generation of Class 3-5 chassis cab vehicles yet. Its high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body is lighter than steel yet incredibly strong, meaning some of that weight savings can be invested in more robust axles, chassis and steering components. The fully boxed under-cab and C-channel aft-of-cab frame are 95 percent high-strength steel. This makes for dependable towing and hauling performance with a wide weight range of service bodies suitable for any vocation.

The lineup has been given a technology update for 2020 starting with standard modems featuring 4G LTE Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices to help keep drivers and crews connected whether on the job or on the road. Ford Co-Pilot360 technologies are now available. These include available auto high-beam headlamps and available lane departure warning. Automatic Emergency Braking, now available on 2020 Super Duty starting with the base XL truck, can help operators avoid or mitigate collisions. Vocational customization is simplified with an available programmable upfitter interface module.

New Ford Telematics and Ford Data Services are available across the Super Duty lineup to help commercial customers operate their fleets more efficiently. The technology enables fleet managers to enhance uptime and asset utilization, optimize running costs, improve driver behavior and protect their fleets using Ford original equipment-grade telematics software. It integrates with a company’s existing telematics service provider or can take vehicle data directly into its own information technology system – giving customers the power of choice. Vocational customization is simplified with an available class-exclusive programmable upfitter interface module.

Ford is the only Class 3-5 manufacturer that designs and builds all of its own engines and transmissions. Offering a choice between the standard 6.2-liter gas V8, all-new 7.3-liter gas V8 and third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel V8 allows customers to spec the performance, efficiency and cost benefits that are right for their business. All engines are available with Ford’s all-new TorqShift® heavy-duty 10-speed automatic transmission with optional live drive power takeoff, which comes standard with diesel-powered models.

When You Don't Need A Heavy Duty Truck - The GM 1/2 Ton Pick-up Box Delete!

The release of this truck to the marketplace in 2015 was a big deal as far as I'm concerned. Whereas in the past, I might have thought, the heavier duty the better just in case you ever need it, I let that go because light duty trucks make great sense in so may ways.

The GMC 1500 (1/2-ton) Box Delete, which isn't a true cab chassis, but you could call it that nonetheless. GM has never had a box off program for 1/2-ton pickups, and now they've taken it to a whole other level by offering this unit.

For general contractors, remodelers, estimators, and a whole lot of other uses could use this truck and enjoy the benefits. Here are just some of the benefits that I see versus the heavier duty 3/4-ton and 1-ton models. One, lower initial cost. Two, lower maintenance costs; such as brakes and tires are smaller and less, and more. Three--and this is a really big deal--it is lower to the ground so it's easier to get in and out of. Four, smaller engine and lighter weight, equals better fuel economy, Five, it looks more like a pickup truck. Six--and this might be the biggest deal--it rides so much smoother than those big trucks do. And, there's more, but those are the big ones that I see.

GM has beefed up the rear axle to help have more capacity and stability too. They didn't just take a 1/2-ton and take the pickup box off. Instead, they gave this some careful thought.

This chassis would be great with a number of different bodies, but we've never really had a 1/2-ton service body combination available before. This one is shown with a Harbor low-pro service body that Harbor has designed specifically for this chassis with some weight saving features.

This unit would be easy to overload, so it is not designed for the riggers of the 3/4-ton heavy duty and 1-ton work loads, but if you only need to carry a few tools, some parts and things and you like a nice ride as well, this combination might be calling your name!

2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty Takes Towing and Power to the Next Level

Ford, America’s truck leader, introduces the next level of Built Ford Tough heavy-duty pickup truck capability, power and technology with the new 2020 F-Series Super Duty. An all-new 7.3-liter V8 with best-in-class 430 horsepower and best-in-class 475 ft.-lbs. of torque joins the standard 6.2-liter V8 in Super Duty’s gas engine stable. The available third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel V8 is upgraded to deliver best-in-class 475 horsepower and best-in-class 1,050 ft.-lbs. of torque. An all-new 10-speed heavy-duty TorqShift® automatic transmission is standard with the 7.3-liter V8 and 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8.
For 2020 Super Duty gets new trailering technology including available class-exclusive Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which makes negotiating even the largest trailers into the tightest of spaces easier than ever before. With hands off the steering wheel, drivers use the Pro Trailer Backup Assist knob to steer the trailer via the reverse camera. Trailer Reverse Guidance shows trailer angle and direction and provides steering suggestions to most efficiently direct a trailer backward. Both systems are built to accommodate all trailer styles, including conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck designs.
Keep connected with standard FordPass Connect embedded 4G LTE modem with Wi-Fi access for up to 10 devices and charge up with wireless charging and USB-C ports. Available driver-assist technology includes Lane-Keeping Alert, Blind Spot Information System with trailer coverage, and Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking.
Across the range, an enhanced front-end design allows for optimized cooling and lighting performance under heavy loads. For the first time, all dual-rear-wheel Super Duty trucks are fitted with a uniquely designed high-airflow grille optimized for maximum powertrain cooling. LED headlamps have a new look with improved performance, while high-series trucks feature continuous signature lighting. An improved front bumper and air dam optimize cooling and make using utility hooks easier. A freshened tailgate design, revised taillamps and new rear bumper convey bolder Built Ford Tough style.
Decorative appliqués on the doors and media bin door are updated on Lariat trucks, while on Platinum edition trucks these pieces are updated to Onyx Argento wood. The interior of the Limited model is completely refreshed, with colors updated to Ebony and Highland Tan to provide a refined, modern feel. Limited features genuine leather, a coarse ash wood in black and modern brushed aluminum trim. Crafted details include decorative stitching on the leather-wrapped instrument panel topper, leather-wrapped armrests, seating and center console lid, and an embroidered Super Duty logo added to the floor mats. A soft headliner in Miko® suede is intended to give the cabin an expansive feel.
Also new is the first-ever Super Duty Tremor Off-Road Package. Tremor is the most capable off-road Super Duty ever, with the outstanding towing and payload capability heavy-duty pickup truck owners expect. It balances what customers demand in terms of work with what they need for the great outdoors. Suspension updates include a front-end lift, progressive-rate springs, custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers to control body motion and 35-inch Goodyear maximum traction tires – the largest tires fitted to a heavy-duty pickup – on unique 18-inch black matte-finished wheels. Super Duty Tremor gets Trail Control, plus a special rock-crawl mode is included in the truck’s first-ever selectable drive modes. The truck boasts 10.4 inches of ground clearance, best-in-class water fording of 33 inches and the best approach and departure angles ever available with a Super Duty. Tremor is available in F-250 or F-350 single-rear-wheel configuration, with either the all-new 7.3-liter gas V8 or third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8.
The all-new Ford F-600 Super Duty chassis cab fills the sweet spot between F-550 and F-650. It is built for customers who need additional payload or need to mount heavier upfits but don’t want to move into a larger truck. Although the overall vehicle is the same size as an F-550, F-600 uses upgraded driveline and chassis components, as well as higher-weight-rated 19.5-inch tires and wheels to help it achieve a higher GVWR.

FORD OFFERING NEW INTEGRATED WINCH FOR 2020 F-SERIES SUPER DUTY TREMOR GAS AND DIESEL TRUCKS

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 2020 – When the trail is blocked and there is nowhere else to go, for the first time ever on an F-Series Super Duty, the new 2020 model with Tremor Off-Road Package can help clear the way with an available integrated electric winch.

The new Ford Performance Parts winch by Warn comes with 12,000 pounds of winching power and will be available as a factory-orderable option or dealer-installed after-sale accessory for both gas and diesel-powered Super Duty Tremor pickups.

“We developed this unique winch in cooperation with Warn specifically to meet Built Ford Tough truck standards for our new F-Series Super Duty,” said Ron Meredith, Ford truck vehicle personalization planning manager. “Having a winch specially designed to our Built Ford Tough standards gives our hard-working Super Duty customers yet another tool to extend this truck’s capabilities whether at work or on the trail.”

Developed with both crash safety and capability top of mind, the fully integrated winch is mounted behind the steel bumper, providing optimized airflow and clearance regardless of engine choice. Customers who select the winch can rely on high-tensile strength, abrasion-resistant synthetic cable to drag almost any rig out of the muck or over an obstacle, or to move trail-clogging barricades like fallen trees. It includes the only wireless remote control in its class along with a provision for wired remote control.

The Ford Performance Parts winch by Warn will be available starting in mid-2020 for $3,000 MSRP.
