Recent Design Updates:

Bolt-On Opener

The 72-150/TE-20 series come with a new and improved bolt-on style opener assembly. This new assembly eliminates the need for welding thereby protecting the liftgates factory coating(s).

Mount Plates Now Bolted Instead of Tack Welded
mount plates
The 72-150/TE-20 mounting plates are now attached to the main frame tube by means of a bolt that is attached to a single tab that is welded to the main frame tube. This new mount plate attachment method replaces the previous one that used several tack welds to hold the mount plates in place. This new method shortens installation times by eliminating the grinding of tack welds.

Grease-able Pins
greaseable pins
The 72-150/TE-20 series of gates now come standard with grease-able pins.

Important Note for Gates Ordered in Galvanized Finish

Orders received for galvanized 72-150 and TE-20 models will have mount plates welded solid at spacing as noted below. Bed heights need to be identified on all galvanized orders.

•    34.25” spacing for high bed ranges of 44" to 54"
•    33.75” spacing for low bed ranges of 38" to 42”

An SOR (Special Order Request) will be required for all other spacing requirements or a callout for NON solid weld (tacked only) mount plates.

A Saw Body for Concrete Cutters by Harbor Truck Bodies

This is an interesting combination of things that Harbor Truck Bodies calls a Saw Body. Designed for concrete cutters, it looks like a service body on the side, yet this is, as shown in the photos, a flatbed frame with things added to it, such as, tall storage compartments and smaller compartments on the side along with a metal wall frame. Inside this is an optional enclosed section sporting a 3-piece cargo enclosure, shown open and closed, and of course doors on the rear that are lockable. Closing up the entire rear area is an Interlift ILK Compact Cantilever liftgate doing double duty as a liftgate to raise and lower heavy saws while acting as an effective rear door.

How interesting to take a flatbed and create a whole new kind of body. It's a hybrid!

Transverse Compartment - An Option for Harbor Service Bodies

The Transverse Compartment in the front compartment of an 11' Harbor Service Body is opened up to go across the bed are to the back of the opposite compartment on the other side of the service body. Notice how the shelf that lines up with the floor is a permanent steel shelf welded in place and the additional shelves are removable and movable.

The Transverse Compartment gives more space that can be locked and secured. You lose a bit of the front of the cargo area, but we think you'll agree that it is a very worthy trade-off. This is not an expensive option and Harbor does them all the time in various ways on a number of Harbor products. This is just one of the many modifications we can make to our standard products inexpensively to make them more useful for your business.

Rightsizing Your Vehicle Fleet to Conserve Fuel

Fleet rightsizing is a management practice that can help vehicle fleet managers build and maintain sustainable, fuel-efficient fleets. Fleet inventories often grow over time to include vehicles that are highly specialized, rarely used, or unsuitable for current applications. By optimizing fleet size and composition, managers can minimize vehicle use, conserve fuel, reduce emissions, and save money on fuel and maintenance.

Evaluate Vehicle Needs and Use
Fleet managers should understand their drivers' daily vehicle use and needs. Most fleet managers already have a handle on vehicle quantities, types, average mileage, payloads, and fuel economy. Fleet rightsizing combines this information with a critical look at fleet operations to identify opportunities for reducing fuel use. When rightsizing, fleet managers should evaluate how important each vehicle is to the fleet’s performance by asking themselves:

  • What is the optimal number of vehicles required to properly support the fleet’s needs?
  • What tasks are accomplished by each vehicle? Or, what is the drive cycle?
  • What is the daily, weekly, or monthly mileage of each vehicle? Or, what is the duty cycle?
  • Are fleet vehicles the optimal vehicle type, class, and size for the job?
  • Are there any vehicles that are no longer cost effective to operate or no longer fulfilling their purpose?
  • Are there any vehicles that are no longer being used or have a lot of downtime?
  • Can any vehicles be replaced by lighter, more fuel-efficient vehicles?
  • Are there any alternatives to owning or leasing a vehicle, such as shuttle bus services, motor pool vehicles, sharing vehicles with other offices/agencies, public transportation, or short term rentals when needed?
